The Cherie Gears Jazz Quintet made a special appearance at Rowan Atkinson's fiftieth birthday party at Queen's College, Oxford tonight. After being asked by Howard Goodall to perform for the occasion, the band prepared a set of Cole Porter and Gershwin numbers, from I Got Rhythm to Embraceable You. The performance was received well by the guests, who included Stephen Fry and Clive Anderson. |

We performed at the NEC in Birmingham tonight for the National Pop and Rock Festival. We played Joss Stone's Super Duper Love, Blues Ain't Nothing, Killing Me Softly and a new arrangement of Wayfarin' Stranger. Matthew Haworth joined us on guitar tonight. |

Howard Goodall will present the show which will feature Egglescliffe School's award-winning music department, where the quintet are currently based, and other top schools in Britain. The programme will show the crop of the school's talent and the variety of ensembles it has. The programme will be shown on Sunday 19th December 2004 on ITV1 at 11:05pm. |

We picked up an Outstanding Performance Award (of which there are two for our category of around 30 groups). We will now have the opportunity (if chosen) to perform for the Music for Youth Schools Proms. The 30th anniversary of the Schools Proms will be held in November 2004 at the Royal Albert Hall, where thousands of people will watch the performance. |

Over £3000 was raised for local charities Butterwick Hospice and Hartlepool & District Hospice by the Danny Allinson Charity Concert at Egglescliffe School tonight. Featuring Danny Allinson on solo percussion with the Egglescliffe School Orchestra and Brass Band and of course, the Cherie Gears Jazz Quintet, it was a spectacular night. |

The Cherie Gears Jazz Quintet and High Street Anywhere performed at the Darlington Arts Centre Garden Bar tonight for the Jazz Lounge event. All tickets were sold out for the gig which was a resounding success, and will open up doors in the future! |

The former Cherie Gears Jazz Quartet becomes a quintet with the addition of percussionist/keyboardist Danny Allinson. Adding extra depth to the band, Danny is an extremely talented musician and is a welcome new member. Danny recently entered the Fame Academy Bursary competition (as seen on BBC TV) and, along with four other musicians, won the top prize of £37,500, to be spent supporting his future musical education. |
The Cherie Gears Jazz Quartet have been asked to play in the Darlington Arts Centre Garden Bar on Friday 26th March for the Jazz Lounge event. The quartet are playing alongside the Durham jazz funk 7-piece band High Street Anywhere. This has been organised by the Northern Echo's music website, Revolution. |
