8th january 2005, rowan atkinson's fiftieth birthday After being asked by Howard Goodall (composer of TV themes Mr Bean, Blackadder and Red Dwarf to name a few) the Cherie Gears Jazz Quintet made a special appearance at Rowan Atkinson's fiftieth birthday party tonight. Held at Queen's College, Oxford, the band played a set of Cole Porter and Gershwin numbers, which were received well by guests including Stephen Fry and Angus Deayton. |

We performed our own arrangements of Softly as in a Morning Sunrise, Stormy Weather, Dindi and Wayfarin' Stranger during the second half to a crowd of over six thousand. |

thu 15th july 2004, nec, birmingham Tonight we performed at the NEC in Birmingham for the National Pop and Rock Festival. We played Joss Stone's Super Duper Love, our own arrangements of Blues Ain't Nothing and Killing Me Softly, and a new arrangement of Wayfarin' Stranger. Joining us on guitar for the night was Matthew Haworth, an old friend and past teacher of the band, whose contributions have meant a lot over the years! |
